No hope of Dell help, so live with it or find something else. It is crazy the extent to which you have to go to get the thing anywhere to just working.

OMG.  Before giving the "standard and totally unrelated advice" please do a little research about the product.  Did you even read the OP?  Did you see that the software cannot even be successfully installed?  Kiran-K, your response frankly is insulting in that you clearly either didn't even really read the stated problem, or you don't understand how the process even works.

I guess this answers my first question.  I still have yet to learn of a single, solitary XPS12 that has run WiDi.  At this point, I would prefer that Dell support NOT respond to this thread.  Frankly, I've spend hours with Dell support and various Dell resources.  None of them have been in the least bit knowledgeable about this area, and frankly have not delivered any results whatsoever.  The system is behaving exactly the same right now as it has from the start.  Neither can Dell show me a single instance where they have been successful with this specific model.   I'm more interested in hearing from other customers.  Most important to me would be XPS12 owners, though feedback from any current XPS model owner would be relevant.

MiladEzzat,

See if I can remember this correctly...

Make copies of files and folders that you cannot afford to lose.

Press and hold the left shift button and restart the computer. You should get the menu option to restore the computer. I would take it back to the factory image.

The past 24 hours + the PC has been turned off 2 times and been "cold" for more than 6 hours. When turned on, both times the network card is recognized immediately. I and probably not you either can explain why! I await the situation.

We're having the same problems here :-(  I was able to convince Dell to send me an internal ethernet adapter. However, they sent one that is not compatible with the Vostro 460 motherboard (0Y2MRG). I don't enough about PCI, etc. connections to know which type of NIC will work. Can someone suggest a brand/ model or provide other details to help me identify a compatible product? Many thanks in advance.

Forgot to mention -- Dell sent a Netgear GA311NA PCI adapter. Am I right in assuming that what we need is a PCI-Express adapter?

Mar. 7, 2013 Hello, Same problem here. I am in tears. The laptop is a Dell Latitude E5430. It is brand new (refurb). Following the instructions in the solutions I see here, the numbers are: PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4727&SUBSYS_00151028&REV_01\4&67996F5&0&00E1. I have downloaded the drivers onto my other Dell laptop and all were installed perfectly except for the Network Controller. Please help me or I will have to return the equipment as it is useless to me in this condition. Thank you, Diner

Here's what's more strange — installing a PCI-E network adapter caused the defunct adapter to start working. I've seen this on the other two machines as well. I can install a PCI-E adapter, or a wireless adapter, and this somehow causes the onboard NIC to work again.

I purchased and installed this NIC: www.amazon.com/.../ref=pe_175190_21431760_M3T1_ST1_dp_1

If the problem is occuring with the onboard ethernet I wouldn't count on it being reliable in the future.  Perhaps when you powered down the computer to install the PCI-e card that may have been enough to gltich the onboard ethernet circuitry to start working again, but I would bet money that you will encounter the same disconnection issues down the road.  I would certainly see if it continues to work and just have the PCI-e card as a backup that you can switch to quickly.  You never know hey?

I believe the Vostro 460 has PCI-e slots which don't work with older PCI cards so yes I think only PCI-e ethernet adapter cards can be used.

Satellite Internet

Has anyone else had problems with a wireless router and satellite internet.  I recently changed from DSL to Wild Blue satellite and the wireless signal keeps dropping out.  I have tried 2 different routers, a Linksys EA3500 and a D-Link N300 with the same results.  With my DSL it had a built-in router and I never had problems. My sons laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1440 running Vista which we are trying to connect.  Any help or suggestions?   Thanks

Wi-Fi connection loss

Has there been any updates on why we lose Wi-Fi on our Inspiron 15z laptops .Only had this laptop a few months now.  This is the second time for me. My old laptop is working fine but, the new model is disconnecting. I tried several approaches but, to no avail. System restore becomes unavailable, drivers are all up to date. I even had Windows 8  re-installed by Dell techs and this still has no solved  this issue. Why?  WHY?
