Hi All,
I'm a new (4 weeks) owner/user of L521X, W8,, and also experiencing the Wi-Fi slow down. I spent an hour with a technician - I let him take control of the system, he ran speedtest.net with me 6 feet from router, and then again 30 feet. Huge difference in speed, approximately 10x slower at 30 feet. He initially stated the problem was with the antenna connection and offered to send a tech to replace the antenna, which requires a display replacement as well. I was skeptical so pressed him to verify that this was a known solution since there were so many complaints. He was absolutely certain this was the issue, but put me on hold to double check. He came back and stated they needed to replace the wi-fi card from the Dell 1901 to Intel 2230 along with the antenna. As a former antenna engineer, I suspect the problem is the design of the antenna and/or its location, and not the drivers or wi-fi card. Has anyone else found the Intel 2230 to be a valid solution? I hate to have my new laptop ripped apart just to find there is no improvement. The technician was exceptionally helpful, I just don't know if engineering has figured this one out yet. Has Dell announced an "official" fix?
Also, has anyone had their system go into a slow overheat when in sleep? Twice now I have closed the lid and placed into my briefcase only to find 1-2 hours later the system was so hot you could barely hold on to.
