Networking died after update of Windows 7

My access to the internet died after Windows 7 updated 2 days before Christmas on my XPS L702X. Both lan and wireless connection are dead. Initially I though it was hardware problem but after swapping the SSD backup I made several months before, internet access was running again. I have tried all the trick I know to recover the previous session but to no avail. I tried to delete all the networking drivers and reload but still no luck. Apart from the internet access, the machine is running fine. I am dreading of doing a complete restore from back up disk. Any suggestions?? Many Thanks
