I have no idea if this is possible. It started shortly after a system restore for some instability, and the same day of an Internet speed and modem upgrade. The laptop was working fine via wifi then stopped. It would connect to the network, but not to the Internet. This was on a Buffalo 54g router, with ssid "Buffalo" changed to "Buffalo 2". Internet still worked on desktop via wifi , smartphones, and iPad. Laptop would could connect to network via LAN, but still no internet, though could connect to Internet directly to modem. Then the desktop had same symptoms followed by the router's ssid changing to the MAC address of the router. Since the router was quite a few years old, I bought a new netgear n900 r4500. Fixed issues with connectivity briefly. Laptop shortly thereafter developed same issue, ssid changed from "netgear02" to "netgear02 2" on laptop. Shut off wifi on laptop and everything else kept working ( still with ssid "netgear02”). This morning only the iPad will connect. Phones won't, desktop now has ssid "netgear02 2"
I have done a couple of system restores on the laptop since purchased, most recently it would go to a "checking disk for consistency" on a black screen. After restore, it continued to do this and then I disabled it through registry. Did a system check on bootup, (f2 I think) and got an error code 2000-0142.
Devices:
Inspiron 14r N4010 windows 7
HP desktop windows 7 with belkin n150 USB wifi adapter
iPad 2
Samsung galaxy 3 & nexus
Like I said, I have no idea if this originating from the laptop or the Internet or something else. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
