I have an Inspiron 570 desktop that has worked fine for at least 6 months since the warranty expired...we had a power surge last week while I was gone and when I returned I was unable to get the wired network to work. I ran the diagnostics and it said that my cable was not plugged in...it was. I rebooted, reseated cables, etc. with no luck. I reset the cable modem and router, reseated cables, rebooted, etc with no luck. I plugged the cable into a laptop and it worked fine. The diagnostics tools on the desktop indicate there are no issues with the network adapter and that it is allegedly working fine.
What I have noticed is that the light indicators on the RJ45 jack on the back are steady state yellow and orange, regardless of whether there is a cable plugged into it. I believe I the power surge may have fried the jack, but don't know how to test for that, or what it would take to repair it.
Any other thoughts on what the issue may be or how to solve the problem?
Thanks!
