Rick,
First of all, I want to say how impressed I am of your expertise and very thankful for the amount of time you have worked with me. I sincerely appreciate it. I will be on vacation until next Wednesday and will pick up trouble shooting then, if you have anymore suggestions.
I downloaded and install the Intel driver software. The original software reinstalled when I rebooted, so I uninstalled the driver gain and installed the new Intel software without rebooting and then rebooted. My driver settings are exactly the same as yours. The new software gave me a utility for a Manual Diagnostics Test and the process fails on the Association Test.
When I boot up, my wireless connection is not shown as one of the options for wireless connectivity. My neighbors' password protected wireless networks do show. It is only after pinging the modem at 192.168.1.1 does my wireless network show as available as an option in the wireless network availability display. I click on it, it asks for the network key, which I enter, and it connects to the internet. However, it disconnects after a few seconds and removes itself from my list of available wireless networks.
I tried the winsock fix and it didn't seem to do anything. I have been noticing by a pop up window throughout this troubleshooting that a program is being loaded during reboot right after the windows screen is shown. I was finally able to identify it by hovering over the "info" icon. Its the Intel 5100 driver and its loading every time I reboot. I don't know if this has anything to do with the problem.
I noticed one other thing. When pinging the modem it shows IP Address Distribution as "disabled". I tried enabling it, but it goes to a screen that wants a bunch of IP address information and I did not know what to put in there, so I left it as "disabled".
Again, thanks so much for your help. BTW, I am not adverse to having you access my computer remotely and toying with it, if you want to set up some time? What I do not know is if you are a Dell employee or an extremely competent "hobbyist" that helps out novices such as myself. I would expect if a Dell employee they would probably frown upon direct contact with myself and/or the computer....but, it was just a thought. One of my concerns is with all the changes I have been doing that I may have left something set incorrectly and the subsequent suggested fixes aren't working because of this.
