Re: Ethernet Connectivity (Driver-related) Problem

Hi  Sundeep B,

I use a old PRECISION (M50)   where i installed  two different XP SP3 and also a WIN 7. I got the same results.

When i have tried   'ipconfig /all'  i found my LAN connection  "disconnected".   The orange LED is of course always on. Only and only orange LED.  I am sur that the cable is good because it was be checked on a another DELL.

My WLAN works fine and i am using it for replying your post.     I did check again the BIOS and my LAN is "Enabled ".

All of the drivers are OK  unless  PCI MODEM (Other devices).  Where may i find a good driver for this PCI MODEM ?

Here is its Hardware Id :

PCI\\VEN_8086&DEV_2486&SUBSYS_4D644243&REV_02

PCI\\VEN_8086&DEV_2486&SUBSYS_4D644243

PCI\\VEN_8086&DEV_2486&CC_070300

PCI\\VEN_8086&DEV_2486&CC_0703

And for my Ethernet device(3Com 3C920 Integrated Fast Ethernet controller):

PCI\\VEN_1087&DEV_9200&SUBSYS_00D51028&REV_78

PCI\\VEN_1087&DEV_9200&SUBSYS_00D51028

PCI\\VEN_1087&DEV_9200&CC_020000

PCI\\VEN_1087&DEV_9200&CC_0200

As you know we have the LAN and MODEM ports on the left side of a M50.

That is why i am asking if there isn't a wiring problem just in this side of my M50.

I have even replaced the LAN daughter board with a very good one and i have the same results.

I am going maybe to check by myself this wiring but it is too difficult for me to disassemble the Modem+Ethernet module.

They seems be attached.

Where may i find please, a good guide to reach this point of this PRECISION ?

Thanks in advance for more assistance.
